Thinking About Customer Service Through “Setting the Table”

Are you looking for ways to improve customer service at your library, to encourage patrons to be comfortable in your space, and to feel welcomed and valuable? The hospitality industry has been finding solutions to these questions for some time, and libraries can learn a great deal from those in hospitality fields. In his book “Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business,” Danny Meyer shares his ideas of “Enlightened Hospitality” and his practical advice on providing consistently positive experiences for those we serve.

Ryan Claringbole of DPI and Stef Morrill of WiLS will host an in-person discussion around the book (whether you’ve read it or not!) at WLA 2015. Hear how your colleagues are adapting Meyer’s Enlightened Hospitality for their own libraries and share how you envision it could work in yours.

If you’d like to join the others who are reading the book now and begin the discussion early, you can find the (abridged) audiobook or ebook in Wisconsin’s Digital Library and the print book in catalogs throughout the state. Use the Facebook group or Twitter hashtag ‪#‎WLAreads to share your thoughts!
