New SAGE product – Data-Planet

WiLS vendor-partner SAGE is excited to offer a new product: Data-Planet.

Data-Planet, now part of the SAGE suite of statistical databases, is the largest single repository of harmonized and structured statistical data available to libraries. With this dynamic tool, users can scan and search the contents of billions of datasets, compare and contrast variables of interest, and create customized views in tables, maps, rankings, and charts.  These vast amounts of data are easy to find through a single point of access and easy to analyze with robust search, visualization and analysis tools.

Data-Planet also offers a suite of user support guides to expedite the research process, including guides to statistics by nation, state, and subject, as part of every subscription.

What subjects are covered?
Datasets cover a wide range of subjects – including business, finance, banking, economics, sociology, political science, demography, agriculture, education, international studies, criminal justice, housing and construction, labor and employment, energy resources and industries, and more.

Where does the data come from?
Datasets are sourced from a wide variety of authoritative public, private and commercial sources across national and international organizations.  Sources include the International Monetary Fund, OECD, National Center for Education Statistics, US Census Bureau, Energy Information Administration, National Cancer Institute, China Data Center, World Bank, United Nations, XIGNITE, FDIC, Federal Reserve Board, Internal Revenue Service, Department of Agriculture, US Senate, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Justice Statistics, and many more.

What can users do with the data?
Users can instantly create data visualizations, compare data from multiple sources, and drill down to very granular levels of detail on millions of variables. All views can be customized and data can be exported via multiple formats, including Excel, text, SAS, XML, and Shapefile, or citations can be exported to Refworks and End Note. DOI links ensure continued access to the view at the time the data was created. Users can create and export DataSheets to PDF, comprising infographics with descriptive summary information on the data represented.
