New digital collection: Kewaunee Ships of War
During World War II, the Kewaunee Shipbuilding and Engineering Company delivered 80 vessels to the United States government for wartime use. The Kewaunee Public Library has recently made available online nearly 300 photosillustrating the history of Kewaunee Shipbuilding from 1941-1946, including ships under construction, ship christening events, and the interiors of completed ships. This unique collection is now fully searchable through Recollection Wisconsin.
The Kewaunee Public Library collaborated with numerous community partners to complete the Kewaunee Ships of War project, including the Kewaunee County Historical Society, Kewaunee High School, and Outagamie Waupaca Library System. Funding was provided in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council’s Greater Green Bay Area Humanities Fund. The digital collection is made available through the InfoSoup Memory Project, an online effort to provide access to the wealth of historical resources available in OWLSnet member libraries.
