Recollection Wisconsin

Recollection Wisconsin, a collaborative of cultural heritage organizations from across the state, provides Wisconsin residents and audiences worldwide with free access to a growing set of historical resources from the collections of Wisconsin libraries, archives, museums and historical societies. Anyone can use the site to explore photographs, postcards, maps, letters, diaries, articles, books, artifacts, oral histories and other materials from dozens of Wisconsin communities.  In addition, visitors are invited to contribute their own memories, images, knowledge and comments and discover personal connections to the past.  The program also provides support to Content Partners in an effort to standardize and coordinate Wisconsin’s cultural heritage digitization efforts.

Announced in Fall 2015, Recollection Wisconsin is a Service Hub for the Digital Public Library of America.  This effort brings Wisconsin’s digital collections to a national stage and enhances Recollection Wisconsin’s work to engage citizens in local, regional, and national history.

WiLS is a core partner helping to develop and expand Recollection Wisconsin.  Additional partners in this collaborative are the Milwaukee Public Library, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and the Wisconsin Historical Society.
