Sheila is Director of the UW-Madison Libraries Teaching & Learning Programs and one of the 2016 winners of the WAAL Information Literacy Award for Sift & Winnow: Libraries@UW, a highly interactive online learning tutorial for students with direct assessment measures. Sheila also serves on the ACRL Student Learning & Information Literacy Committee’s Framework group.
The Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education moves library instruction from a standards approach to “interconnected core concepts.” During this webinar, we’ll talk about how to use the frames in your instructional design. Using a modified Backward Design approach, you’ll be able to design effective and engaging library instruction sessions. Strategies for assessment and evaluation will also be included. Bring your Framework for Information Literacy questions, experiences, challenges, and examples to share with colleagues.

The second WLA Reads is afoot!
Join your colleagues in reading “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg to ponder and discuss the implications for library service at WLA 2016 in Milwaukee. Share your thoughts on this book and its message of changing a work culture’s habits (for the better) and how that might impact communities as you read with the WLA Reads! Facebook Group, and then join DPI’s Ryan Claringbole and WiLS’ Stef Morrill on Wednesday, October 26th at WLA 2016 for a group discussion.

Making the Ask Activity Template
Strategic partnerships are key to effective library service, but identifying and approaching potential partners can be difficult and daunting. WiLS’ 2016 Regional Community Meetings, held in various locations across Wisconsin during the fall, are free half-day opportunities to learn about and use community asset mapping, a powerful tool to help you engage and connect with the people you serve by revealing your community’s assets and potential collaborators. You’ll also be able to develop practical approaches to reaching out to the potential partners you’ve identified, connect with your colleagues in the area, and learn more about WiLS’ projects and services.

WiLS is very excited to present our first Good-WiLS Ambassador Report! Interlibrary Loan expert Josh Steans of UW-Stout attended the 25th Annual Minitex Interlibrary Loan meeting on May 10th. Registration for WiLSWorld 2016 is now open! Join WiLS and your colleagues at the Pyle Center in Madison on Tuesday, August 2nd for an exciting line-up of speakers and breakout sessions. Wednesday, August 3rd is Workshop Wednesday, where you can grow your skills with targeted, hands-on workshops.

David Bendekovic, founder of The B. A. David Company, an organizational and leadership development company, and an expert at cultivating innovation and leadership throughout organizations even, or perhaps especially, in times of great change and uncertainty, kicks off WiLSWorld with his keynote address.
Breakout sessions this year appeal across the spectrum of librarianship. You can explore instructional librarianship, adventures in library space planning, and sessions ranging from bringing patrons up to basic technological competencies to mobile hotspot lending implementation at your library. New this year, the New Technology Showcase! Half lightning presentations and half demonstrations, you’ll have a chance to learn more about new technologies and tools library staff are using in their work, and then get up close and personal with a demonstration of those that you’re interested in learning more about. All this and a tour of the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. But wait! There’s more!

Join us for hands-on learning at the Second Annual WiLSWorld Workshop Wednesday! Workshops include: Data 101 (learning more about using data, specifically your data!), creating infographics to tell your library’s story, bringing coding to your library, and help for rocking your LibGuides. Plus, there will be an all day workshop dedicated to Design Thinking, provided by experts Design Concepts, a product design and innovation consulting firm based in Madison. Registration for all workshops is limited, so be sure to register as soon as possible!
