Spring Peer Council Meeting
Schedule

Sign-in and light breakfast— Welcome

9:30-10:30
UW-Madison DoIT KnowledgeBase
The UW KnowledgeBase (KB) is a web-based service that enables authors to easily create, display, share and manage information. The KB provides institutions, departments and other interested groups with a central location to store and maintain content which can be shared within the group and/or publicly.  The overarching goal of the KB is information sharing and collaboration among KB Partners and stakeholders. The KnowledgeBase is also intended to empower end users to easily find information themselves.

The KnowledgeBase application was developed and is maintained by the DoIT KB Team with input from a KnowledgeBase Advisory Group. There are currently over 80 groups, departments and institutions with their own KB sites. Many of these partners are sharing documentation with other Partners rather than creating entirely new content.

Members of the UW KB Team and Help Desk staff will discuss the evolution of the KnowledgeBase and the model for creating and sharing up-to-date documentation. Examples of how the KB is being used by various partners will be highlighted, along with notable features.

Keynote: Technical services workflows: trends and good practices (ppt or pdf)

David Whitehair, OCLC (David has been a product manager of cataloging products and services at OCLC over 20 years see bio)

As libraries continue to struggle with ways to keep up with current demands and make time to focus on hidden collection, we must all step back and re-evaluate what we are doing and why. During this interactive presentation, we will discuss trends and good practices to help technical services staff.
