Thanks to all of you who attended the 2014 ILL Meeting!  We’ve added links to the available presentations to the schedule below.

9:30-10:45 – Keynote: Transforming Resource Sharing Services: 2008, today, and beyond… with Cyril Oberlander

At our 2008 ILL meeting, Cyril Oberlander described the transformation of resource sharing services. Cyril focused on the relationship between requests and delivery, library users and use, and outlined a variety of opportunities to change workflow. Since 2008, how did interlibrary loan evolve, what surprises were there, and where to next?

The information environment continues to change the work and shape of libraries, this presentation shares options and decisions facing the ongoing transformation of resource sharing. What does unmediated resource sharing options look like, what new information sources are there, and how do we prepare for these changes? Collaboration and innovation are key strategies that persist at libraries, and resource sharing has an exceptional record for delivering the future.

10:45-11:00 Break

11:00-12:00 – Interlibrary Loan:  a framework for measuring value with Brian Hannemann
With ever tightening budgets, all aspects of library service are being examined for efficiency and personnel are being asked to justify the costs associated with providing services.  In this presentation, Brian will share a basic framework for establishing the cost of Interlibrary loan at your library.  There will also be a discussion of ILL vs. purchasing, and ILL as a substitute for collection development.  The goal will be to give ILL participants a better understanding of ILL expenses and of how ILL fits into the changing landscape of library service.

Additional topics will be suggested by attendees, so bring your concerns and questions!

2:00 – 2:45 – Sending Books to Prison as a Community Service: How Interlibrary Loan Fits into a Rehabilitation Program – Kyle Nabilcy
Libraries in the community, public or otherwise, occasionally express concern at lending their materials to incarcerated borrowers. The fear is that the books will be misused or abused, destroyed or lost. Reality as Kyle sees it is a little less negative than that, as inmates utilizing the interlibrary loan system are demonstrating the beginnings of a mindset that will only serve to make them better and more productive citizens upon their release. He will share observations and inmate borrower comments, and answer questions about interlibrary loan services in Wisconsin prisons.

2:45 – 3:30 – Genealogy and Interlibrary Loan with Lori Bessler
Genealogical materials are requested so frequently and they are often less likely to be accessible through Interlibrary Loan.  So how do you make this information available?  What services does the Wisconsin Historical Society provide to make this more efficient and affective?  This presentation will inform you about services and policies.
