What to Expect at WiLSWorld

We are really excited that you’ll be joining the fun at WiLSWorld this year and it’s important to us that you are comfortable while you are in our care, learning and connecting and sharing at the conference.

To that end, we’ve put together this little “What to Expect” guide to help prepare you for the experience. While all the details about parking and location will be emailed to you, this helps you with the “intangibles” of the conference.

If you need anything at all or have any questions that aren’t answered here, please contact us at .

Atmosphere and Dress Code

WiLSWorld is an informal conference, typically attended by about 100 professionals from libraries and cultural organizations. We try very hard to create a welcoming environment that respects diverse experiences. The dress code likewise is very informal. Some folks show up in fancy suits but most are in comfortable clothing that allows them to focus on their professional development. The thermostat in the Pyle Center can sometimes have a mind of its own, so dressing in layers is a good approach! (And what kind of librarians would we be if we didn’t have two cardigans in our bag?)

Finding Help

At any time during the conference, if you find you need help, just look for a WiLS staffer (here are our faces!) or a WiLSWorld planning team member. We will have special ribbons on our name badges just so you can find us and we are all happy to help you with what you need.

Connecting with Other Attendees

The great thing about our community of members is that they are really, really nice. If you find that you are overhearing a good conversation and want to participate, the chances are good that your participation is welcome! The same applies at lunchtime. Oh, that awkward situation where you have to go and sit down next to strangers. And of course, you have to ask if anyone has already claimed the seat you want to claim so now you’ve drawn attention to the fact that you, too, are a stranger. We have all experienced it. But, be assured, you are wanted at that table when you are at WiLSWorld. Have a seat and introduce yourself!

Or don’t because we absolutely respect (and are) introverts, too.

Happy Hour

After a long day learning and growing professionally, it’s nice to unwind and chat with colleagues both new and familiar. WiLSWorld’s happy hour is a very laid back occasion and all are welcome to join the fun, whether you drink Sprite or Spotted Cow.

Accessibility

The Pyle Center provides ramps and elevators to all area of the building as well as wheelchair-accessible bathrooms and facilities. Hearing assisted devices are also available upon request. Either ask at the front desk or let a WiLSian know. All nearby parking facilities provide handicap parking. If you have other specific questions about the accessibility of the building or surrounding area, contact us at .

Respecting Different Experiences

We ask that you abide by the Golden Rule while at WiLSWorld and respect others as you would like to be respected.
