WiLSWorld 2016 with Keynote David Bendekovic: Save the Date

WiLS is excited to announce the 2016 WiLSWorld keynote, David Bendekovic.

David Bendekovic is the founder of The B. A. David Company, an organizational and leadership development company specializing in helping libraries create environments where extraordinary things happen every day and has partnered with Library Journal as a developer and lead facilitator of Lead the Change: Professional Development for Today’s Librarians. Bendekovic has dedicated his career to working with librarians and other professionals to cultivate innovation and leadership throughout organizations even, or perhaps especially, in times of great change and uncertainty.

David’s research and work in the area of library leadership began in 2002 as Program Director at the Leadership Institute at Syracuse University. Since then, he has worked with many of today’s top library leaders, facilitating programs at over 175 libraries throughout the U.S., Canada, and Australia. Over 10,000 librarians have attended his leadership and professional development programs.

Additionally, David co-founded, developed, and continues to serve as the lead instructor for the Pennsylvania Library Association’s Academy for Leadership Studies. In 2012, he teamed up with Library Journal and created and developed what has become the Library Journal Professional Development program. He also speaks at numerous state, national, and international conferences throughout the year.

David will be speaking at 9:00am on Tuesday, August 2^nd at the Pyle Center in Madison.

NEH grant received!

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) today announced $21.1 million in grants for 248 humanities projects. We are excited to share the news that this includes a planning grant to WiLS, project manager for Recollection Wisconsin! Recollection Wisconsin’s NEH-funded project, Listening to War: Uncovering Wisconsin’s Wartime Oral Histories, will find, assess, and create a plan for the digitization of oral history interview recordings documenting 20th-century military conflicts as experienced by residents of Wisconsin, held by libraries, archives, and historical societies throughout the state.

This yearlong project will bring together expertise from twelve partner institutions to assist dozens of public libraries and local historical societies in preserving the irreplaceable voices of our veterans. The project, which begins this summer, will help to educate the community on preservation of oral histories, providing essential direction at a time when many of these audiovisual materials may be at risk. It will also raise awareness of the unique collections held by these institutions and create a community of practice that will help all libraries and cultural institutions interested in audiovisual digitization and preservation.
